Garrett Wilson scouting report

Shows solid speed. I think he might be a step slow, but his route-running prowess helps him tremendously to create separation. Fairly good at changing direction. Returned punts last year. Ridiculous body control. Goes from one move to the next much like a video game. I think it takes Garrett an extra step to really get up to speed, which can limit him after the catch and when running the go. Still above average.

Very explosive athlete. Incredible footwork throughout the route. Very talented route runner. Extremely nuances. Ran a good route tree from both the boundary and the slot at Ohio State. Understands nuances against coverages very well. Very talented and smart receiver. Has a lot of small, subtle moves that he uses throughout his route to keep the defender honest. Great ability to work off of jam coverage. Has a variety of release moves to get off quickly. Flashes the ability to play with an incredible catch radius.

Very natural receiver, quickly adjusts to make the catch. Plays at another level. Needs to display a more consistent catch radius. Excellent vertical ability. Goes up very well to contest the catch point when he needs to. I would expect a very high testing number (38+ vertical). Incredible contested catch ability. Ridiculous hand strength. Very solid runner after the catch. Shifty and very explosive. Difficult to bring down, plays with strong contact balance. Has a vast variety of moves that he uses very well. Suitable run blocker.

Pre-Combine projection

We really like Garrett Wilson as a Z receiver prospect. He can play both on the boundary and out of the slot and did so effectively at Ohio State last year. He’s a top-tier route runner and can be among the best in the league upon his entry. We think Wilson is a potential perennial pro bowl player at the next level.

We like Wilson as a top 15 lock in this class. He’s the best receiver on the board, a route-running playmaker who has the ability to make a lot happen after the catch. His lack of size compared to some in this class won’t be an issue as he has the athleticism to make up for it.
