Daniel Joseph Scouting Report

Straight line speed won’t be as much of a problem. Will probably test higher in the 40-yard dash than his tape would suggest. Very inconsistent with his effort. Looks great some plays, and others doesn’t look good at all. Good lateral quickness. Can put a move on against interior linemen and shrug past. Has some good moves that he will use well. Joseph flashed a solid spin move and inside rip. Very strong first step. Difficult to contain off the initial step.

Excellent upper body strength. Has the ability to make some power moves and move blockers. Lacks the balance to really be effective off his speed rush. Shows some upside with his bend, just needs to continue to work on it. Has the build and athleticism to be special. Hand usage overall is good, but offers considerable upside to his game. Strong hands. Strong tackler. Helps out well as a run defender. Closes gaps well and pursuits to the boundary. Strong gap defender. Sometimes plays very fast, other times does not. I think it’s a motor issue with Joseph.

Pre-CGS projection

We like Daniel Joseph here at NFL Sapient a lot. The Penn State transfer is a strong run defender as well as a high-upside pass rusher with quickness and good speed-to-power technique. He’s capable as both a 5-tech and a 3-tech and can play defensive end in both a 4-3 and 3-4 front.

Joseph looks the part of a fourth/fifth-round prospect at the next level. His versatility will boost his value in the class due to demand. We think he could be off the board sooner, potentially at the end of day three.
