Braxton Jones Scouting Report

Average speed for his position group at the next level. Very quick, smooth feet. Lacks some upper body strength compared to most NFL prospects. Excellent lower body strength. Has the build to be very effective. Not particularly powerful. Flashes at times but it isn’t his MO.

Works well into his anchor. Has the bend to hold up against power rushes fairly well. Overall, seems fairly stiff. Doesn’t show a consistent recovery ability. Flashes the ability to recover, tries to cut off the angle the defender will take.Hand placement is just a little bit off. Struggles to get under the defender and lift him off his feet. Lacks the technique to battle against most moves a pass rusher can try.

Shows decent strength as a pass blocker. Struggles at times with power rushes. The issue with Jones seems to be getting under the linemen that he faced against, and lacking the flexibility to get the push he needs from the snap. Really struggles with the inside move. Very average run blocker. Doesn’t consistently get that push off the snap. Does cut back well to create the run lanes that is needed.

What we want to see from Braxton Jones in Mobile

  • Braxton Jones dominated linemen at the FCS level, oftentimes while matched up against vastly far less superior talents. Will Jones continue that trend against the top seniors at the Senior Bowl? When Southern Utah played Arizona State and San Jose State, Jones didn’t show the dominance that he did against most of the FCS.

Pre-Senior Bowl projection

Braxton Jones projects best as a pass protector at left tackle in a spread offense. We don’t know if he will ever be a capable starter, but Jones looks like he could be a project backup.

Jones projects as a priority free agent on our chart. His size is good, but we have questions about his strength and run blocking ability and how they transition to the next level. Until Jones shows promise in Mobile, it’s hard to see him projecting well in the NFL.
