Lecitus Smith Scouting Report

Average speed for the next level. Better laterally than anything. Very capable of pulling on assignments and setting up the hole. Strong upper body, very stout arms. Decently strong overall, very stout blocker. Wouldn’t say he is a brute, but he has brute-like tendencies.

Strong anchor, great bend. Rarely overwhelmed, but when he was he lacked the ability to recover very well. Great placement with his hands, understands how to leverage the defender very well. Strong hands. Solid lockdown technique. Locks the arms of the defender and has strong arms to utilize this technique.

Suitable pass protector. Very strong and capable of locking down interior defenders 1v1. Doesn’t surrender much ground very often. Good pass protecting technique with his plant stance, his bend, and his hand usage to lock down the defender. Very strong run blocker. Passes blocks on very well to set up his move to the second level. Very effective puller. Does a great job setting run lanes consistently. Strong technique as a blocker. Fights for the angle and nudges his way to it.

What we want to see from Lecitus Smith in Mobile

  • We really just want to see Lecitus Smith confirm everything that we’ve seen on tape – his stout, strong run blocking ability and formidable pass protection. If he comes into Mobile and continues to handle business as normal, there shouldn’t be any issues.

Pre-Senior Bowl projection

Lecitus Smith is a very capable guard who can be utilized in both man and zone schemes. Virginia Tech ran concepts in both categories, mostly sticking with man schemes in run blocking and zone schemes in pass blocking. He’s capable of being used as a puller and creates run lanes with relative ease. We think he projects well as a potential day one starter in a weaker room, but certainly a starter in year two.

We like Smith as a second/third-round prospect, one of the better guards in the class. His overall ability should be pleasing to clubs looking for depth and starting ability alike.
