Coby Bryant Scouting Report

Speed shouldn’t be an issue for Coby Bryant. Accelerates very well. Strong upper body for his position group. Recovers very quickly in coverage, very explosive and sudden athlete.

Tends to be too aggressive to be an effective tackler. Doesn’t exactly wrap up, but can get the job done. Solid pursuit angles. Good hustler too. Very solid man coverage. Stays with the play and works around the receiver to play the football. Very quick to read and react. Moves into position and feels the zone and its surrounding areas well. Quick recognition ability. Rallies very quickly to the ball.

Decent press ability. Could be better with his hand placement and how much force he puts into his jam technique, will try to force physicality at times when the receiver is somewhat out of his reach.

What we want to see from Coby Bryant in Mobile

  • Coby Bryant wasn’t the best cornerback on the Bearcats team this past season, that honor belonged to Ahmad Gardner. Bryant was often matched up against the weaker receiver on the team, which in the AAC was not normally very stiff competition. We’d like to see how he holds up in his man and press coverage ability in Mobile.

Pre-Senior Bowl projection

Right now, we believe that Coby Bryant’s film is good, but that there were a lot of tendencies and mistakes that he was able to get away with. That being said, he’s got some work to do and things to learn once going to the NFL. He won’t be a starter before year three and shouldn’t really see the field his rookie season, but his versatility in coverage should make him a valuable later round target.

We like Bryant as a fifth/seventh-round projection with his upside being there and versatile coverage ability. He could be a very decent pro, but the league will have to be patient with him.
