Spencer Rattler summer scouting report
Arm Talent (20)
Spencer Rattler has a cannon for an arm. Not only does he throw well from the pocket, but Rattler can throw effortlessly while on the move. He shows excellent ability to throw with touch and layer the football into tight windows and over defenders. 19/20.
Rattler shows the ability to throw with excellent accuracy, pinpoint, and on the money. Throws well from both the pocket and outside of the pocket, even while moving. 22/25.
Pocket Presence (10)
Moves well within the pocket. Absorbs contact to allow his throw to get off. Rattler is very impressive in that regard. He moves well to space and is looking to throw before taking off to run. 8/10.
His footwork could be better and more consistent, but he keeps himself always ready to throw. 8/10.
Spencer Rattler is an excellent runner downfield. Not only does he run with speed, but he can make contact and is elusive. He keeps plays alive by extending outside of the pocket without disrupting the development downfield very well. Plays much like a seasoned veteran. 10/12.
Rattler flashes incredible improvability skills, especially with his mobility. 7/8.
Football IQ/Field Vision (10)
Rattler will miss things on the field but overall shows an excellent ability to read the field and pick apart defenses. Very smart and intelligent on the football side of things. 8/10.
Rattler is growing into an excellent teammate and leader. That much was clear. When he was benched against Texas, it appeared that something clicked inside his head that needed to. He really took the opportunity to grow from it. 5/5.
Rattler suffered a minor ankle injury as a senior in high school that forced him to miss a game and a half, but outside of that, he has managed to stay healthy throughout his career. +3.
Rattler has many upsides, mostly on his footwork getting better and gaining more experience to see the field and recognize defensive concepts even better. He’s going to be special. +3.
Overall report on Spencer Rattler
Currently, Spencer Rattler compares to the level that Tua Tagovailoa was at when he exited college for the NFL. With some improvement in 2021, Rattler could receive a higher grade on my chart than Joe Burrow did. He has tremendous upside, and another special year quelling concerns would be tremendous to his draft stock.
Overall Grade: 93.
