NFL Sapient Owner, John Vogel, announced coverage of the newly announced and reforming USFL this morning, June 4th, 2021. NFL Sapient strives to bring complete coverage of professional football. We want you to be ahead of the curve with players and prospects before they enter the NFL. The USFL, kicking off in the Spring of 2022, promises to bring more NFL prospects to the forefront. FOX Sports announced yesterday, June 3rd, a television contract with the opening league.
The Spring League founder and CEO, Brian Woods, is behind the re-opening of the USFL. “I’m extremely passionate about football, and the opportunity to work with FOX Sports and to bring back the USFL in 2022 was an endeavor worth pursuing,” Woods said in a prepared statement. “We look forward to providing players with a new opportunity to compete in a professional football league and giving fans the best football viewing product as possible during what is typically a period devoid of professional football.”
The USFL first took the field in 1983 and survived three seasons before folding. Former United States President Donald Trump famously owned a team back in its origination. The league also rotated several stars into the National Football League, including quarterback Jim Kelly, Herschel Walker, and defensive end Reggie White.
USFL league details so far
As of now, eight teams will take the field in 2022, although the cities and teams have yet to be announced. FOX Sports has purchased all of the brandings from the twelve teams that previously competed in the 1980s. We can assume that the league will feature teams that previously played in the original USFL.
It appears that the league hopes to pull players from college ranks who may not yet be eligible to enter the NFL Draft. With a very deep 2022 NFL Draft class projected, there should be no shortage of talent available to perform in both this league and The Spring League in 2022.
Currently, the XFL is slated for a re-kickoff in the spring of 2022 as well, although they are currently in discussions with the CFL to merge. No details about a potential emergence with The Spring League or any involvement between the two leagues have been announced. All other details will be released at a later date.
“The relaunch of the USFL is a landmark day for football fans and FOX Sports,” Eric Shanks, the executive producer and CEO of FOX Sports said. “Football is in our DNA and the return of this innovative and iconic league us a fantastic addition to our robust slate of football programming.”
NFL Sapient is excited to bring coverage of the league on this website. “We wish the best for the league,” NFL Sapient owner John Vogel wrote in a prepared statement, “and it’s future success in putting professional athletes on the field and helping advance careers.”
